Election of office bearers at the Automobile Association of Ceylon

The 108th Annual General Meeting of the Automobile Association of Ceylon will held on June 20 at 5.00 pm after which the voting for the election of office bearers will take place. Vijaya Corea and E. J. de Soysa have been elected Vice Presidents of the Association uncontested.

Senior Attorney-at-Law Lakshman Indranath Keethisinghe and Director of the Upali Group Dhammika Attygalle are contesting for the Presidency.

While Attygalle who is presently the President has described the services rendered by the outgoing council in his message to the members in the Annual Report of 2012/13, Keerthisinghe in his message has stated that as Attygalle has already completed two terms of two years each in office, if the Rules of the Association were not amended at the last AGM he would not be entitled to contest.

As the Presidency of the AA is one concerning social service he contends that other eligible members should also be given an opportunity to serve the Association.

Twenty four candidates are contesting for the twelve positions as members of the committee.
