Solid Sports Club Anuradhapura overcame former champions, Don Bosco,
by 1-0 at Don Bosco grounds, Negambo on Sunday in another match of the
Champions League Football tournament.
It was a tough battle until the 74th minute when A O Shola booted the
winning goal for Solid.
It was dissapointment for Don Bosco at their home ground. Solid now
tops the table with 14 points and have been unbeaten in the tournament
so far with four victories and two draws.
Matara City SC out classed Ratnam SC by 3-2 at CR and FC grounds on
the same day in another encounter. It was a drawn game until the last
minute but M S M Shashikapriya with a beauty changed it all in the 92
minute. Earlier in the 14th minute B K Wabena of Matara City SC scored
the goal and two minutes later M M Yogaraja came with the equalizer for
Ratnam. In the 34th minute O Y Ikbenna scored the second goal for Matara
City but Yogaraja again booted a goal for his team ten minutes later and
both teams started 2 all in the second half. Renown SC overcame SL
Police SC by 3-2 at Police Park .
Renown SC led the game by 2-0 when the second half commenced with M
Fazal and M C M Rizny scoring goals in the 12th and 19th minutes
respectively. M Hakeem booted another one in the 54th minute for Renown.
Two minutes later H E N Charaka scored a goal for SL Police while in the
last minute S M Rafeei scored another goal but could not prevent his
team from defeat.
The new comers, Up Country Lions wiped away Nandimittra by 5-1 in a
group B match played at CR and FC grounds on Saturday.
R M Rajapaksa scored three goals for his team while Patrick Wilson
addd two including goal in the last minute. Damith Weeraratne scored the
only goal for Nandimittra. |
