CID tells court:
DIG Vaas Gunawardena was allegedly given Rs.1m

The CID filing a B report before Additional Magistrate A. M. Shaheed
yesterday said suspect Chutta had told them that DIG Vaas Gunawardena
was allegedly given Rs. one million out of Rs. 30 million agreed in the
contract to kill business tycoon Mohomed Azamdeen Siyam.
Chutta was arrested and Rs. 400,000 was recovered from his
possession.
DIG Vaas Gunawardena when arrested admitted that he was a killer
(Mama mini maruwek).
DIG Gunawardena was arrested on June 10 by the Criminal Investigation
Department and was remanded until June 25 on the orders of the Colombo
Magistrate. The other suspects, one Sub Inspector, three Police
Constable and two civilians were detained until the completion of the
ongoing investigations.
The Magistrate also directed the Prisons authorities to provide
maximum security for the DIG while at the Colombo National Hospital. On
an application by the CID the Magistrate directed the CID to forward the
two weapons recovered before the Government Analyst for a comprehensive
re[port. CID ASP Shani Abeysekera with CID Special Investigation Unit
OIC Ranjith Munasinghe and SI Upali Bandara appearded for the
prosecution. Senior Attorney Ajith Pathirana appeared for the DIG
Gunawardena. |
