Building complex, museum opened at Saman Devale

President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited historical Saman Devale premises
on Tuesday to participate in a felicitation ceremony for outgoing
custodian, Sunil Shantha Weerasekera, who rendered a great service for
the uplift of the historical place during his tenure of seven years.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa inspects the reestablished stone

Lokubandara, National Heritage Minister Dr. Jagath Balasuriya,

President Rajapaksa also opened a multi-purpose building complex at
the Devale premises and a museum where artefacts belonging to the Devale
are kept for public viewing.
Statues of Sinhalese Kings, including King Parakramabahu II, are kept
in the museum. The stone inscription on the temple was also
reestablished with the aid of Ola leaf inscription brought from the
British museum.
The original stone inscription had been devastated by the Portuguese.
President Rajapaksa was presented a special memento by Basnayaka
Nilama Sunil Shantha Weerasekera in recognition of his services to the
country.
