President to hand over 10 newly built houses in Keppapilavu

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will hand over 10 completed houses under
the Keppapilavu housing project adjoining the resettlement camp of the
Sri Lanka Army in Keppapilavu, Mullaitivu tomorrow.
Commenting on the project, Mullaitivu Security Forces Commander Major
General Leonard Mark said the villagers were displaced during the
30-year terrorist war. The three bedroom houses are built in the lands
owned by the recipients. The villagers will benefit with houses as well
as compensation for the land they lost. The entire project of housing
construction was undertaken by the Army.
Built with the support of the Army, the community and Resettlement
Ministry, 10 completed houses will be handed over to the owners. The
project and all aspects in constructing the houses was undertaken by the
Army.
The community comprises farming and fishing communities.
The farming community who lost their cultivation lands due to war
will be provided with 2-3 acre blocks of land for cultivation purposes.
The fishing community will be given housing near the Nandikadal Lagoon
to facilitate their livelihoods added Major General Mark.
A primary school will also be opened by President Rajapaksa together
with the opening of the housing project. Together with the handing over
of the houses, the President will be commissioning electricity projects
for the Keppapilavu village which did not have the facility during the
war period. The President will also hand over scholarships to village
students as well as food rations to village families during the event.
“The villagers are eagerly looking forward to welcome the President and
the area has been beautifully decorated for the occasion, “Major General
Mark said. |
