Ministry of Construction. Director LECS, Imran Hassan speaking to Daily News Business disclosed that they have already year marked a four acre land at the proposed construction complex in Peliyagoda.

“What we are planning to do is to build a large indoor and out door convention hall which could house nearly 1,000 exhibitors.” LECS hosts some of the biggest exhibitions in India, the Maldives and Sri Lanka including the North East. Hassan said that the lack of exhibition space was a growing concern to promote MICE tourism. “The only venue is the BMICH but this too is getting over crowded and some times has to limit the number of exhibitors. It was due to this that we proposed this to the Minister of Construction who whole heartedly decided to support our proposal. With the opening of the Colombo Katunayake highway, a foreign visitor could get to this centre in 20 minutes and this would be a major attraction for busy businessmen.”

The proposed C City adjoining this proposed convention hall will provide an array of building material and services under one roof.

LECS is a multi-national organization which was at the forefront of Trade Fair business in South Asia with an objective of promoting the region as a venue for international trade fairs and events.

He said that in addition LECS is also proposing to build a 200 room hotel adjoining this proposed, convention centre in Peliyagoda,” he said.

He said that they were talking to some investors who were keen to get involved in both projects and also who would like to move separately. “LECS is keen to manage this convention, since we have the experience to do so and the State engineering corporation would provide all other needs including planning and would even under take constructing,” Hassan added.
