Foreigner arrested with 126 gold nuggets

A U.S national was arrested with 126 gold nuggets valued at over Rs. 2.5 million at the Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake, Sri Lanka Customs said yesterday.

Customs Spokesman Lesly Gamini said the 45-year-old American had arrived from Singapore and was detained after gold nuggets weighing 627 grams in his possession were discovered. Gamini added that this was the man’s second visit to the country.

Investigations are continuing.
