Mahamaya netball champions

Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy, scored a hard fought 18-12 win over Bandarapola Vidyalaya, Matale to emerge champions at the Central Province Schools under 15 netball championship organised by the Ministry of Education of the Central Province and played at Katugastota.

At half time the Mahamaya led 9-5. Bandarapola is a small village in the Matale area and it is creditable for them to have entered the finals of this championship which featured all the top schools from the districts of Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya covering a large area. In fact this was the first time in 10 years that a school from the Matale area had entered the finals of this tournament.

The girls from Bandarapola played well but the Mahamayans being an elite school with more amenities and exposes to the game got the better of their opponents through some excellent play by Pubudini Marasinghe, Ruwiniya Malpora, Thiroshi Pathirana and Hashini Chandrananda.
