Boat capsises; three missing

Three persons of the same family went missing in the deep waters when a boat capsised in the Kaluganga near Meepitiyagama in Ratnapura yesterday around 9 a.m.

The boat was ferrying nine persons. Police with the help of villagers launched a search for the missing trio. The group of nine from Negombo had attended a funeral in Meepitiyagama.

They had to cross the Kaluganga by boat while returning home when they faced the mishap. The missing were identified as the father aged 42 and his 19-year-old son and daughter aged 14. Villagers managed to rescue the mother and others in the boat from drowning.
