Six-a-side cricket Benedictine way
The Old Bens Sports Club, for the second year in succession has made
arrangements to conduct a Six-A-side Softball Cricket Tournament at St.
Benedict's College Grounds Kotahena on July 20 and 21 commencing 8.00
a.m.
The main purpose in conducting such an event is to raise funds for
the O.B.S.C Cricket wing and also to give a helping hand to the College
Senior Cricket pool. This year the organizing committee is being chaired
by past cricketer, vice captain and opening batsman who represented
College from 1975-1979 George Ranasinghe.
The tournament last year was a resounding success. From the funds
collected, OBSC were able to host the year 2012 quadrangular tournament,
providing necessary Cricket gear to College cricketers and also meet
expenses for the Division III Cricket Tournament where the O.B.S.C.
emerged Champions last year.
Further it was very encouraging to note that there were 7-8 College
cricketers who represented the O.B.S.C. team.
This exposure and experience enabled the College team to perform well
at school encounters and tournaments.
It is very significant to mention that the College team were
runners-up in the all island 50 overs Inter-School limited overs
tournament. Further after a lapse of 18 years the College First XI team
were unbeaten in the league tournament.
The organizers invite all Old Boys to participate in this friendly
Cricket tournament, where the over 40 matches will be worked of off on
Saturday July 20 and the under 40 tournament which will be held next day
followed with a social in the evening.
Team registrations will be entertained on or before July 5, on first
come first served basis.
