The Commander's Trophy Annual Golf Tournament, which is open to all
and will follow the Stableford rules, will commence on the 1st June 2013
at the Sri Lanka Air Force's own Eagle's Golf Links in the picturesque
settings of China Bay, close to the harbor city of Trincomalee.
The 18 hole course which winds its way through undulating ground
overlooking the scenic Clappenberg and Malay Cove will come alive on
June 1(Saturday) with the sounds of gutta-percha... or rather its modern
version, striking wood and steel and with cries of fore! With over one
hundred golfers expected to parcipate, it is expected to be a busy day
out on the green.
The Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force Air Marshal Harsha
Abeywickrema handed over the Trophy of the annual Golf Tournament to the
Chairman of Sri Lanka Air Force Golf, Air Vice Marshal Kapila Jayampathy
on May 29(wednesday) symbolizing the inauguration of a new SLAF
tradition of hosting an Annual Golf Tournament.
The trophy is fashioned on the lines of the 'Claret Jug' which is the
trophy that has been presented to the winner of the British open
championship since 1873.
The SLAF Commander's trophy differs from this trophy in that it has
its own unique engraving which reflects Sri Lanka's rich cultural
heritage.
