Ananda in 20-15 win over Sylvestrians

Fighting broke out immediately after final whistle was blown as
Ananda College, Colombo posted a hard fought 20 points (4 tries) to 15
(1 goal 1 try, 1 penalty) win over St. Sylvester's College, Kandy in
their schools under 20 Division one segment B rugby tournament match
played at the Bogambara stadium, Kandy yesterday. At half time Ananda
College led 10-7.
Heavy rain during the day made conditions muddy and the match was
reduced to a forward battle and the players were bathed in mud.
In the initial half the Ananda scored twice through winger Nadun
Kodituwakku and Serum half Gaveesha Ariyasinghe and centre Dharsha
Lochana failed to goal both tries.
The Sylvestrians scored through fly half Uppala Seneviratne and this
was galled by winger Ishan Rajapakse.
After the short break winger Ishan Rajapaksa put over a penalty to
level the scores.
But the Anandian scored twice through lock forward Dilshan Madushan
and Nadun Kodituwakku and both these tries went unconverted and led
20-10.
Then St. Sylvester's came into the game bighting first to reduce the
gap through a try scored by No 8 T. R. Bandara which was not goaled by
Ishan Rajapaksa.
They Kept pressing and they were almost there before the long blast
was sounded.
It was then all hell broke loose with the reserves joining in. It was
timely action by the police and the officials from the home team which
prevented a major breach of peace.
