Lanka ‘A’ team leave for the Caribbean

Sri Lanka ‘A’ team, led by Test opener Dimuth Karunaratne, left the
island yesterday on a tour of the Caribbean comprising two unofficial
Test matches, two Twenty20 matches and three unofficial One Day
Internationals against West Indies to be played from June 5 to June 27.
The island nation, which lacked ‘A’ tours in the recent past due to
numerous reasons, will engage in a tough series against Windies ‘A’ team
during the three-week tour.
Sri Lanka ‘A’ have included Test cap Kithuruwan Vithanage, who scored
a half century against Bangladesh on his Test debut with hard hitting
vice captain Angelo Perera, Ashan Priyanjan and Test wicket-keeper
batsman Kaushal Silva, who reached the 1,000 run mark in the recently
concluded Sri Lanka's Premier League Tournament as batsmen.
Test paceman Suranga Lakmal will spearhead the Lankan pace attack
with Ishan Jayaratne and Premier League leading wicket-taker Moors
Sports Club's Malinda Pushpakumara, who bagged 63 wickets during the
two-month domestic series. Nondescripts Cricket Club's off spinner
Tharindu Kaushal, who has got a vicious doosra, will be the cynosure of
all eyes in two unofficial Tests.
The tour party includes coach Romesh Kauluwitharana, Champaka
Ramanayake (fast bowling coach), Hashan Tillekeratne (selector on the
tour) and Jayantha Seneviratne as the team manager,
