Human activities threaten wetlands

The world reputed Bundala Ramsar wetlands is threatened by unruly human activities. The over exploitation of wetlands fauna and flora has resulted in several species facing the risk of extinction. Introduction of several species of parasitic aquatic animals, plants and ornamental fish to the wild habitat is posing threat to the bio diversity of the region.


Earthenware industry gets boost

The government will provide assistance to improve the earthenware production industry at Ambagolla of the Minipe Yodha Ela Irrigation Development Zone where the majority of the people earn a living from making kitchen utensils and other clay-ware.

The Industrial Development Board will offer technical and financial assistance for the project.


Curd becomes sour

Curd of Ruhuna has become sour due to adulteration with new comers entering the industry. Senior citizens who practised the trade for decades say the reputation gained by the Ruhuna curd has been degraded by the adulteration.


Public lecture, panel discussion

A public lecture and a panel discussion on Beyond Greening - Sustainability and Green Business 'Opportunities through technological innovation' will be held on June 4 at 5 pm at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, 100, Sri Lanka Padanama Mawatha, Independence Square, Colombo 7.

It is presented by the Sri Lanka Foundation and the Sustainability Learning Centre of Sri Lanka.

The keynote address will be delivered by University of Moratuwa Chemical and Process Engineering Professor, Professor Ajith de Alwis, on 'Opportunities through Technological Innovation.'

It will be followed by a panel discussion by an eminent panel comprising Professor Ranjith Bandara, Dr Erandathi Lokupitiya, Dammika Jayasooriya, T.B.B. Sumith, and Dr Nihal Dayawansa.

Prof Ajith de Alwis will discuss how business could get competitive advantages through embedding technological innovations to the business process.

This session will be a provocative and interactive discussion.

Marians Ecoustica Show

The Marians Ecoustica Show will be held at the Museus College Auditorium today at 6.30 pm.

The Marians comprise Prasanna Rosa (lead guitar/acoustic guitar), Dileepa Mangala (piano), Ajith Ruwan (rhythm guitar), Chaminda Silva (bass and classical guitar), Subash Punyasoma (drums), Jayantha Kandabadage (percussion), Hector Dias (saxophone/ vocals), Shivantha Fernando (vocals) and leader Nalin Perera (bass guitar and vocals).
