Anuradhapura District Secretary Mahinda Seneviratne instructed
Divisional Secretaries to support the efforts of the Institute of Post
Harvest Technology in Anuradhapura to promote rice based food. The
District Secretary said paddy harvest has been on the increase for a few
consecutive seasons.
The people should be encouraged to take rice and rice flour based
food in place of wheat flour based food. The research officers of the
institute of the post harvest technology have invented a range of rice
flour based food varieties such as noodles, bread, habala pethi instant
string hoppers and rice, infant food, biscuits, murukku, cake, buns
viyan rolls and butter buns.
Meanwhile, North Central Chief Minister Ranjith Samarakoon is
planning to revive the rice flour based bakery food items manufacturing
programme through Pradeshiya Sabhas commenced by the provincial council
authorities nearly three year back.
