Applications called for Sri Lankan Astronomy Olympiads

Deadline extended to June 5:

Applications are called from schoolchildren wishing to participate in the seventh Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad competition (Grades 10-13) and third Sri Lankan Junior Astronomy Olympiad competition (Grades 6-9) organised by the Institute of Physics - Sri Lanka.

The competition will be held on June 15 at 11 am at the Departments of Physics at the universities of Colombo, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna (Matara), Batticaloa, Jaffna and Vavunia Campus and/or nearby Open University Centres.

Those who do well in the national competition will be given medals and certificates at national level. Those who excelled

at national competitions will be sent to International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) and International Astronomy Olympiad(IAO) in 2014.

The application forms for these Olympiad competitions can be obtained from the IPSL website www.ip-sl.org and www.ipsl.lk. The closing date for those Olympiads is extended till June 5, Sri Lankan Astronomy Olympiads national coordinator Prof Chandana Jayaratne said
