Central Hospital unvails 'Biplane Digital Subtraction Angiography Unit'

The Central Hospital recently installed a Bi Plane digital subtraction angiography unit which is the first of this kind in Sri Lanka.

In a path-breaking initiative, the Central Hospital takes pride in unveiling the latest "Biplane Digital Subtraction Angiography Unit" the first of its kind in Sri Lanka to offer Interventional Radiology, a sophisticated medical procedure extensively used in the wealthy affluent western countries, for the benefit of Sri Lankan community, some of who hitherto had no choice other than going overseas to obtain such top-of-the-line treatment services.

Interventional Radiology is the surgical wing of Radiology where minimally invasive techniques are used to diagnose and treat various pathologies.

These minimally invasive interventional radiological procedures are used wildly in the developed world, which sometimes avoids major surgery and in many instances provide the only mode of treatment for the patient. The high standard of accuracy in imaging facilitated by Biplane DSA unit offers highly promising prospect of successfully treating "Stroke" as never before by speedy detection of the precise point of blockage, if the patient is brought to the hospital within a minimum stipulated timeframe, enabling the patient to practically walk home through an expeditious convalescence process.

Through this ground-breaking endeavour, Central Hospital has elevated the benchmark of its high quality services on par with the best in the world.
