R D Peiris passes away

R D Peiris (Dudley) who captained Prince of Wales first eleven cricket team of 1951/52 died at the age of 82 and he was the oldest survival cricket captain of the college.

He played for the college under 12, 14 and 16 teams and first played for the first eleven under Stanley Fonseka and then Nisal Senarathne.

After leaving school he played for the Treasury in the Government Services ‘A’ division along with Anton Sethupathy and Stanley Fonseka and played for Moratuwa Sports Club in the Daily News Trophy and captained in 1958/59 season.

His wife Lalani pre-deceased and he leaves his daughter Deepika and son in law Sisira.

His remains lie at 18, Watson Peiris Mawatha, Moratuwa.

The burial will take place at Moratuwa cemetery after the service at Holy Emmanuel Church, Rawatawatta at 9.30 am today (May 30).
