Help identify body
Marawila Police seek public assistance to identify the body of an
elderly man who died after being hit by a train plying from Colombo to
Puttalam near the Nattandiya railway station on Tuesday morning.
The man appears to be around 80 years and was sent to the Negombo
hospital morgue.
Diurnal burglar arrested
A suspect arrested in connection with 31 house breaking incidents in
several towns was remanded until June 6 by the Gampaha magistrate.
The Gampaha Crime Investigation Unit arrested the suspect in
Weliweriya on Sunday. He revealed information about 31 house breaking
incidents during day in Gamapha, Veyangoda, Weliweriya, Weeragula,
Minuwangoda and in Nittambuwa.
Police also recovered part of the loot, including jewellery, gas
cylinders, laptop computers, cameras, electrical items, mobile phones
from his possession.
Gampaha Police are investigating.
Two arrested with heroin
Mirihana Police arrested three suspects with 8.700 grams of heroin in
their possession at Thalapathpitiya and Rajamawatha, Mirihana. They were
produced before Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Mirihana
Police are investigating.
Car kills mother, daughter
A mother and her daughter admitted after being knocked down by a car
at Kahagolla junction in Mawathagama, succumbed to their injuries at
Kurunegala hospital on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred when a
car, travelling on the Kandy-Kurunegala road, went out of control and
veered into a garden by knocking down a woman and a girl in their
compound. E D Ramani Jayasinghe, 47, and R D Shalani Sumaya Kularatne,
9, died in the incident. The driver of the car was arrested by
Mawathagama Police.
Illicit brewery raided
Wennappuwa Police on Tuesday raided an illicit liquor brewery and
apprehended three suspects with 400 bottles of illicit liquor, 10
barrels and other implements. They were produced before the Marawila
Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Mother, daughter hacked to death

A mother and a daughter died when they were attacked by an
unidentified group of persons with sharp weapons at their home in
Abayapura, Anuradhapura on Tuesday night. The woman’s husband who was
also hacked has been admitted to Anuradhpura Teaching Hospital. Sheela
Karunaratne, 62, and her daughter, 23, Thakshila Darshanamali died in
the incident. Anuradhapura Police are investigating. |
