Former IDB chairman sends letter demand to Udayan editor

Former Industrial Development Board (IDB) Chairman Udayasri
Kariyawasam through his lawyers yesterday sent a Letter of Demand to the
Editor of Udayan Newspaper claiming Rs. 1 million as damages regarding a
news item published in the May 8 issue of Udayan newspaper damaging his
good name.
The news items has accused the chairman of drawing Rs. 700,000 from
the Board in a form of monthly allowance. Kariyawasam through his
lawyers has requested the Udayan editor to make an apology over the news
item which damaged his reputation and good name.
The lawyers on behalf of Kariyawasam sent a letter of demand as the
paper has failed to make an apology. Kariyawasam has instructed his
lawyers to take legal action against the Udayan editor in an appropriate
court, if he fails to pay the money demanded by him within 21 days. |
