Sachith excels at Nuwara Eliya Road Races

Cricket Lion Sachith Pathirana was declared winner of the event for
Group SL-N cars standard upto 1000 cc at the 51st Nuwara Road Race
organized by the Sri Lanka Motor Club and the Nuwara Eliya Motor Sports
Club and held in Nuwara Eliya during the festivities season.
Sachith Pathirana driving a Nissan March on a wet surface following
rains finished behind veteran racing driver Dammika Peiris who was in
the position and was declared winner of the event.
But on a subsequent viewing of the video footage it was found that
Dammika Peiris start was not in order. In order to regularize this
anomaly the organizers decided to elevate Sachith Pathirana to the first
place and Dammika Peiris to the second place. There was no change in the
third position which went to Harsha Panduwawala. All three drivers drove
the same. Make of vehicle Nissan March 1000 cc which was a test of
machine of equal capacity and in the end it is the skills of the driver
which ends in the final result.
Sachith Pathirana is an immensely talented sportsman who has ventured
into Motor Sports. In 2011 won the Kandy Night Race and in 2012 won the
Mahagastota Speed Hill Climb and now the Nuwara Eliya Road Race.
Sachith Pathirana is also top cricket capturing 100 wickets in a
season for Trinity College and also performed the hat-trick. Playing for
Central Province in a 45 over inter provincial match slammed 235 not out
besides many other top performances. He is the present captain of Chilaw
Marians CC. |
