Community health education at Hemas Hospital Thalawathugoda
Reflecting a belief that health education has the potential to make a
huge difference in overall healthcare of a community, Hemas Hospital at
Thalawathugoda has already commenced a series of free health education
seminars at their facility.
With an opening set for June this year, the new state of the art
hospital hosted its first public seminar yesterday, on common cardiac
ailments and its prevention, delivered by Dr. Champike Ponnamperuma,
consultant cardiologist of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The well
attended seminar, mostly by residents of the area, was followed by a
lively interactive discussion as well as a free random blood sugar test
for all those present.
The seminar covered topics from common coronary syndromes to
symptoms, risk factors, immediate treatment, prevention and a host of
topics on the prevention, care and cure of common coronary ailments. The
hospital plans to have such sessions at least once a month to benefit
the community. Each seminar will have about 100 to 150 participants.
”It was an informative and knowledgeable lecture on Heart diseases
and emergency care. We look forward to future events such as this”
commented a participant Prasanna Ranatunge, Chief Examiner, Sri Lanka
for American Society for Quality.
“Every neighborhood deserves a great hospital and we are confident
that Hemas Hospitals will undoubtedly be among the best in the Country”
said its General Manager, Dr. Chamila Ariyananda.
“As such we have planned a series of free education programmes which
are devoted to helping people lead a healthier lifestyle while
understanding the ailment” she enthused.
Hemas Group is one of the leading conglomerates in Sri Lanka with a
focus on five key sectors, Dr. Champike Ponnamperuma, said. |
