The Cosmetic Devices and Drugs Regulatory Authority (CDDA) detected a
lorry load of unregistered cosmetics and drugs in Gampola acting on a
tip-off, a Health Ministry spokesman said. The spokesman said CDDA
officials inspected the lorry and found that the racket had been
continuing over a long period. The persons taken into custody along with
the lorry had revealed that these unregistered cosmetics and drugs are
packed illegally in a ‘factory’ using a popular brand name.
The CDDA had received information about illegal and unregistered
cosmetics and drugs. The CDDA conducts raids regularly, he said.
Meanwhile, CDDA Director Dr Hemantha Benaragama said the public
should provide information to the CDDA on illegal and unregistered
cosmetics, drugs etc available in the market.
