IESL president visits Pelwatte Sugar factory

The President of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) Tilak
De Silva visited the Eastern Provincial Office of the IESL recently.
This is the first time in the history of IESL that a President visited
the Eastern Province.

About 70 Engineers of various disciplines who are stationed in areas
such as Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Kalmunai, Pottuvil, Ampara and
Samanthurai, the Chairman pf the IESL Provincial Centre, were present to
meet the IESL President.
The President discussed various issues pertaining to the development
of the engineering field of the area and the problems engineers face in
carrying out their duties. He discussed about the Engineers'
professional advancement and explored avenues of development in the
Eastern Province.
The IESL President also visited the Pelwatte Sugar Factory and had
discussions with the Engineers there on their professional and personal
issues.
He told Daily News Business that at Pelwatte Sugar plantations, he
was pleasantly surprised to see that the factory is generating their
power without being dependant on the National Grid.
"That is the only way to overcome the present power crisis. If all of
us add a couple of solar panels to the existing power setups of our
houses and offices, the country will be save a drastic amount of power,"
he said.
