Development Lotteries Board Working
Director, attorney- at - law Gamini Ekanayake was appointed
as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Kalutara District
Organiser by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Ekanayake is also
the Kalutara District SLFP Lawyers Association President. He
is involved in the development of the SLFP by dedicating in
various fields including in his profession. He is reputed
for his social service and was the Kalutara District Civil
Security Council President when terrorism existed in the
country. |

Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar
Mammadyarov paid a courtesy call on President Mahinda
Rajapaksa at Temple Trees last evening. The Foreign Minister
said his country has great respect for President Rajapaksa
for ending the war, which he described as a “really great
achievement.” The Azerbaijan Foreign Minister also told
President Mahinda Rajapaksa that his country stands “on the
same line on international issues” with Sri Lanka.

Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka
Ashok K. Kantha accompanied by Mrs. Sharmila Kantha paid a
farewell call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees
on May 3. The President hosted the High Commissioner and
Mrs. Kantha to breakfast. External Affairs Minister Prof. G
L Peiris was also present on the occasion. |

First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa
launched the 20th edition of the Carlton Suva Udana
programme initiated for the welfare of rural women at
Mahingamuwa MV in Pallepola, Matale. The Carlton Suva Udana
programme also hopes to upgrade the nutritional standard of

manned by a team of specialist doctors and pharmacists in

The Samurdhi Sip Dora programme
provides scholarships for 8,133 students islandwide spending
Rs 195 million. Scholarships were granted to 450 Gampaha
District students with a payment of Rs 1,000 per month for
two years at Naiwala weekly fair in Minuwangoda yesterday.

Maha Samayama, the opera that was the
centre of critical discussions and evaluation is
hailed as one of the most outstanding operas of our times
will be staged at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre
on May 19 at 6.30 pm on public request. The show on
May 20 at 10.30 am will be for school children, organisers
said. This Opera came on stage for the first time in January
this year. The opera is based on the fight between
Gotaimbara and Mahasona as recorded in our historical
sketches. Cast includes, Jackson Anthony, Sriyantha Mendis,
Channa Wijewardene, Ravibandu Vidyapathi, Nisshanka
Diddeniya, Indika Upamali, Chathurika Peiris, Madani
Malwatte and a host of others bringing the historical story
alive. Music is by Sangeetha Visharada Samantha Perera. |

Traditional Industries and Small
Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda
participating as the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony
at the Municipal grounds to mark the commencement of Samaye
Arunalu carnival programme on a concept of Northern
Commander Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe in the
Northern province to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
The carnival was organised by the 51st battalion of the Army
in charge of security in the administrative area of Jaffna
Municipal Council. Among the attractions were musical
extravaganzas, a ferris wheel, a merry-go-round and trade
stalls. |
