Greek Bond case: No show by Upul Jayasuriya
The Fundamental Rights case filed by Member of Parliament, Sujeewa
Senasinghe against the Governor and the Monetary Board on the Greek Bond
investment was not supported by the Petitioner’s Senior Counsel, Upul
Jayasuriya when the case was called at the Supreme Court yesterday.
The Supreme Court Bench presided over by Justice Shiranee
Tilakawardane asked the Petitioner’s Junior Counsel to make his
submissions, but Counsel stated he was not prepared to argue the case in
the absence of Senior Counsel Upul Jayasuriya.
The Judge said that the Attorney should be prepared to argue the
case, and reprimanded counsel and set a new date on June 18, 2013 at
which Senior Counsel, Upul Jayasuriya was asked to make submission on
behalf of his client. Deputy Solicitor General, Sanjay Rajaratnam, PC
appeared for the respondents, the Governor and the Monetary Board. |
