‘Udayan trying to create communal disharmony’
Jaffna Mowlavi - Rakshana Shriyantha
The Udayan newspaper and certain other sections of the Tamil media
which cannot reconcile with the peace and amity existing between the
Sinhala and Tamil Communities are trying to take the country back to
bloodshed by setting up Sinhala and Muslim people against each other.
Muslims in this country will never jeopardize peace by falling prey
to their machinations, Jaffna Mosque Mowlavi Abdul Cader said.
He said the government has always stepped into help the Muslim
Community in this country whenever they are confronted with a problem.
Mowlavi Abdul Cader expressed these sentiments responding to an
article published in the Udayan Newspaper on May 1 aimed to arouse
communal tension.
The Udayan report alleged that the “government is bent on oppressing
the working class. It broke up the UNP May Day rally held last year. The
government is trying to harm national reconciliation by aiding and
abetting to destroy Muslim places of worship and business establishments
because it is acting as a majority Sinhalese government.”
Mowlavi Abdul Cader said the government has already returned 12,000
acres of land in the North to the Muslims. The government is always
acting in an intelligent manner to forge national unity and
reconciliation and this had angered the editor of the Udayan newspaper.
The people are fully aware as to whether the UNP stood for or against
national reconciliation. The UNP, he said had done nothing for the
benefit of Muslims when it was in power.
The present government has always strived to protect and safeguard
Muslim places of religious worship and business establishments, he
emphasised. |
