Rat fever victim dies

A person who had contracted Leptospirosis died at the Batticaloa
Teaching Hospital on Sunday. The victim was identified as Amirthalingam
Sudakaran (33) of Satturukondan, Batticaloa.
Workshop
A workshop on “Improvement on MIS in Sri Lanka towards e- government”
conducted by Kporea International Cooperation Agency IT Consultant Wonok
Park will be held at 9 am today at the SLIDA 'Sanskathani Hall'.
Secretary P B Abeykoon, Additional Secretary Jinasiri Dadallage will
also address the session organised by the Ministry of Public
Administration and Home Affairs.
South sees steep rise in Dengue

Nearly 3,495 dengue cases had been detected in the Southern Province
in 2012 with seven deaths reported, Southern Province Chief Minister and
Health Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva said.
Speaking at the Southern Provincial Council meeting, he said 1,914
dengue patients had been diagnosed in 2011 while 3,495 cases were
reported in 2012, an increase of 1,581 cases.
Sewing exhibition
WESCO Technologies Pvt Ltd will conduct an exhibition named Sewing
Technologies- 2013 from today to April 25 at the Hilton Residencies in
Colombo. Germany, Italy and China are due to participate.
The organizers will introduce latest sewing techniques to Sri Lankans
at this exhibition. They claim that garment manufacturers in the country
will greatly benefit.
Dhamma classes
The Colombo YMBA will commence Pali, Dhamma and Abhidhamma classes in
English for new students on April 27 from 2 pm on the third floor of the
association building at Borella.
Classes will be conducted by the same teachers parallel to Sinhala
medium classes.
Rs 400 per month will be charged from a student while bhikkus and
dasasil mathas can follow the course free of charge.
Buddhist discussion
The next Buddhist panel discussion of the Colombo YMBA will be held
on April 28 at 10 am at its Borella building on Who is a Puttujjana. The
panelists are ITN Deputy General Manager Rinze Randeniya and Buildings
Department Former Designs Director Brindley Widanarathi with Rajah
Kuruppu as the moderator.
Anniversary
The 125th death anniversary of Sheikh Abdulla Ibnu Umar Badheeb Al-Yemenee,
a great sufi saint and scholar, will fall tomorrow.
Sheikh Badheeb Moulana was from Yemen. He had a wide circle of
Mureedeens and Muhibbeens in Colombo and other parts of Sri Lanka.
Detainee hangs himself inside cell

A suspect committed suicide by hanging himself with his belt inside
the Ja-ela prison cell on Sunday.
Police officers on duty on seeing the detainee trying to hang
himself, had immediately removed him from the prison cell and taken him
to the Ja-ela hospital. The detainee died on the way to hospital. A
spokesman for the the Police Media Spokesman's Office said a suspect
arrested and detained at the Ja-ela police prison cell over a charge of
attempting to unlawfully enter a house, had hanged himself.
The body is lying at the Ja-ela hospital, pending the post-mortem.
Reports say the Police have launched an investigation into the incident. |
