Death of former Bens soccer captain Aloy Peiris
It is with profound sadness that we inform of the demise of Old Bens
soccer captain Aloy Peiris, who passed away at the age of 91 and was
cremated in UK in January 2013.
According to his daughter (Charmini Anthony who is now in Sri Lanka),
the Old Bens in UK gathered and participated in the funeral service, and
fulfilled the families' wish by granting him a Benedictine send off.
Old Ben Aloy Peiris was dressed wearing the College Tie, the casket
draped with the College flag and the College Anthem too was played on CD
and sung by the Old Bens present. The ashes of Aloy Peiris will be
interred today at Madampitiya Cemetery, following a Memorial service at
St. Lucia's Cathedral at 4.00 p.m.
Late Aloy Peiris was born in 1921 and had his entire education at St.
Benedicts' College and was a boarder at the College Hostel. He excelled
in sports, captaining the college football team in 1940, and also
represented the college cricket team and was an excellent Athlete too. |
