Fine and 11 years imprisonment for rapist

A man who stood indicated with the rape of a ten year old girl was found guilty and sentenced to 11 years RI and fined Rs. 5,000 by the Kurunegala High Court Judge Saman Wickramarachchi. The accused B.G. Sunil alias Nimaladasa (42), is a father of two children of Polpitigama.

The incident had taken place on April 26, 2005 when the girl had been on her way home after making some purchases from a boutique close to her house, to which she had been sent by her mother.

The accused was ordered to pay Rs. 50,000 to the girl as compensation. In default he was sentenced to two years imprisonment. State Counsel Kusika Kumarasiri prosecuted.
