US hunts for Boston ‘pressure cooker’ bombers
US investigators Tuesday told how two suspected
pressure cooker bombs sprayed nails and metal pellets into Boston
marathon crowds, killing three people and injuring more than 180.
But with no claim of responsibility made and police not committing
to blaming foreign or domestic militants, Boston harbored widespread
questions about the perpetrators as the city and the nation paid
tribute to the dead.

Syria issues new amnesty as conflict rages
President Bashar al-Assad declared a “general
amnesty” on Tuesday that was full of exemptions and sniffed at by
Washington, as the conflict ravaging Syria showed no signs of
abating. Under the latest decree, troops who deserted but did not
fight against the regime may be pardoned if they surrender within a
month, state news agency SANA reported.

Ivory Coast wants UN drone border surveillance
Ivory Coast asked the United Nations Tuesday to
monitor its border with Liberia with drones to make up for the
expected decline in the global body's presence in the African
country. Should a planned withdrawal of UN peacekeepers go into
effect, Ivory Coast is seeking “the deployment of qualitative
resources such as surveillance drones in the border area,” said the
country's UN envoy, Youssoufou Bamba.
