Sri Lanka beat Lebanon to remain in Davis Cup group II

Sri Lanka beat Lebanon 3-1 in their crucial Davis Cup tennis tie and remained in group II when the two teams battled it out at Automobile et Touring Club du Liban (ATCL), Jounieh, Lebanon recently.

Even though Dineshkanthan Thangarajah lost the first singles to B.Beidas in straight sets 1/6, 2/6, 1/6, he comfortably beat K. Alayli in his other singles match 6/2, 6/4, 6/1. Harshana Godamanna defeated his Lebanese opponent Alayli in easy straight sets 6/3, 6/3, 6/2 bringing two victories to Sri Lanka out of three singles.

The doubles match has turned out to be a tough battle for both teams, but the Lebanese pair B. Beidas and P. Chucri took the early lead by winning the first set after close contest 7/6(3). Sri Lankan duo Harshana and Thangarajah used their experience and skills together to overcome strong Lebanese players by winning following three sets, saving Sri Lanka from a demotion to group III.
