Repair toilet plea

The row of toilets at Hungama town has had no water for several months. The public, commuters and wholesale traders who come to the public market are affected.

A spokesman for Ambalantota Pradeshiya Sabha said the pipes laid to the toilets have been damaged during renovations to the road and the water supply to the toilets will be resumed soon.


Building almost collapsing

The building in which the Agrarian Services Kataragama office is housed, is old and dilapidated. Employees are working under trying circumstances.

The roof of the building is dilapidated and during wet weather, water flows in to the rooms of the building. This has been brought to the notice of the authorities who have not taken any action up to date.


Investment proposals

The Hambantota sea port has received seven investment proposals from prospective local and foreign investors to establish industries within the sea port premises.

Hamabana Petro Chemical Ltd signed business venture agreement with the Sri Lanka Port Authority for a proposed project to set up a plant for the production of bottle grade polythene terephaalate packaging resin, said SLPA chairman Priyath Banduwickrrama.


Push cyclist injured in lorry mishap

A push cyclist was injured when he was knocked down by a tipper lorry along the Dambulla- Mirisgoniyawa road.

The man was admitted to the Dambulla Base Hospital in a critical condition.

Police arrested the lorry driver.

Dambulla Police are investigating.


Two held for theft

Galewela Police arrested two persons for stealing Rs 66,000 and a mobile phone in Galewela town.

Police investigations revealed the suspects had stolen the money and the mobile phone from a wine shop.

The suspects produced before Dambulla Magistrate's Court were remanded until today.

Galewela Police are investigating.


Minister to attend forum in Uganda

International Monetary Co-operation Senior Minister and Finance and Planning Deputy Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama will attend the 10th April Investment Forum at Kampala, Uganda today. The Forum will be held tomorrow and April 12. Minister Amunugama is scheduled to meet Uganda President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Uganda Finance Minister Maria Kiwanuka.


Electric fences to stop jumbo attacks

Electric fences are set up in the Hambanttota district to minimize human- elephant conflict according to Southern region Wildlife Assistant Director U. L. Thowfeek. He said an electric fence of 118 kilometres from Walasmulla to Koholankala and several other electric fences are set up in different parts of the Hambantota district.
