'Lama Mithuru' gives boost to rural schools

The government has taken several measures to develop schools in both
rural and urban areas during the past years to upgrade the education
level in the country. Schools in rural areas are today comparatively on
par with urban schools in the availability of facilities and
infrastructure, Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.
The minister expressed this view at a ceremony to donate Rs 500,000
to Kalatuwava Vidyalaya for its development activities under the Lama
Mithuru school development programme.
Lama Mithuru, a schools upgrading programme, has already been
launched islandwide under the guidance of Economic Development Minister
Basil Rajapaksa.
Around 5,000 primary schools are to be developed under this
programme. Eleven schools in the Eheliyagoda electorate are also to be
developed under this programme, Wanniarachchi said.
Kalatuwawa Vidyalaya, Wewila Vidyalaya, Mitipola Vidyalaya, Mahara
Swarnajayanthi Vidyalaya, Paleegala Vidyalaya, Andagala Suhada
Vidyalaya, Mudunkotuwa Vidyalaya, Matuwagala Tamil Vidyalaya,
Kaluwatenna Vidyalaya, Lellagoda Vidyalaya and Pussella Tamil Vidyalaya
will be developed under the Lama Mithuru school development programme.
Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Chairman Kanchana Jayaratne,
Eheliyagoda Pradeshiya Sabha Members, teachers, students and parents
were also present.
