'Lama Mithuru' gives boost to rural schools

Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi participates in the launching of development activities at Kalatuwava Vidyalaya

The government has taken several measures to develop schools in both rural and urban areas during the past years to upgrade the education level in the country. Schools in rural areas are today comparatively on par with urban schools in the availability of facilities and infrastructure, Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.

The minister expressed this view at a ceremony to donate Rs 500,000 to Kalatuwava Vidyalaya for its development activities under the Lama Mithuru school development programme.

Lama Mithuru, a schools upgrading programme, has already been launched islandwide under the guidance of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

Around 5,000 primary schools are to be developed under this programme. Eleven schools in the Eheliyagoda electorate are also to be developed under this programme, Wanniarachchi said.

Kalatuwawa Vidyalaya, Wewila Vidyalaya, Mitipola Vidyalaya, Mahara Swarnajayanthi Vidyalaya, Paleegala Vidyalaya, Andagala Suhada Vidyalaya, Mudunkotuwa Vidyalaya, Matuwagala Tamil Vidyalaya, Kaluwatenna Vidyalaya, Lellagoda Vidyalaya and Pussella Tamil Vidyalaya will be developed under the Lama Mithuru school development programme.

Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Chairman Kanchana Jayaratne, Eheliyagoda Pradeshiya Sabha Members, teachers, students and parents were also present.
