SLBFE assures safety of Lankans in South Korea

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foriegn Employment (SLBFE) yesterday said
that all measures have been taken to ensure the safety of Sri Lankan
workers in South Korea in case of an emergency.
The SLBFE spokesman Mangala Randeniya in a statement said a plan has
been drawn to evacuate Lankan workers in South Korea to safe places, in
case of war or if there is any threat to their safety.
Randeniya said that under the instructions of Foriegn Employment
Promotion and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera, both the SLBFE and Sri
Lankan Embassy in Seoul was taking all measures to ensure the safety of
Lankans.
He said that discussions had been held with the International
Organization of Migration (IOM) as well regarding the safety of Lankans
in case of an emergency.
Also Randeniya said that Sri Lankan workers have been recruited
through the direct intervention of the Korean Human Resources
Development Authority which practices high standard regarding worker
safety. Nearly 25,000 Sri Lankans are currently employed in South Korea.
