Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa yesterday suspended Parliamentary sittings
for 15 minutes to hold a party leaders' meeting to decide as to what
Bills would be taken up for debate in Parliament.
The Speaker suspended the sittings at 9.34 a.m. following a request
made by Leader of the House, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva to suspend
the House for a short period to hold the Party Leaders' meeting to
decide as to what Bills should be taken up for debate.
The Leader of the House made this request following the Speaker's
announcement that the Supreme Court had determined that the Bills that
were challenged before it were not inconsistent with the provisions of
the Constitution.
The House resumed sittings at 9.51 am.
