NDB CSR project to supports school libraries

NDB through one of its many CSR projects targeting education has supported over 100 school libraries islandwide.

This project is carried out in partnership with the Asia Foundation where educational volumes in English are donated to schools across the island. This on-going project is carried out through the Bank's branch network since 2008.

The books donated include volumes of general interest as well as texts on subjects such as mathematics, science, health, natural history and geography. Advanced texts in mathematics, science, natural history and other subjects were also donated for the benefit of the pupils in higher grades.

Through this initiative NDB has been supporting and promoting student growth and the improvement of English through reading in over 100 schools.

Upon reaching this milestone of supporting over 100 schools the Chief Executive Officer of NDB Russell de Mel said "education is a strategic CSR focus area at NDB and within this English education is a primary goal. English is the universal tongue of the current global marketplace and has become the passport to wealth and opportunity, an essential requirement for almost every profession."

This CSR initiative also supports the schools to have resource rich libraries. Resource-rich school libraries play key roles in promoting both information literacy and reading for information and inspiration.

Research shows that research-rich school libraries contribute to high student achievement and academic success as they teach 21st century skills, promote achievement, and play a major role in closing the achievement gap.

NDB's wider approach to sustainability is categorised under three pillars of strategic, philanthropic and operational initiatives; out of which the Strategic initiatives revolve around entrepreneurship and education. NDB continues its efforts to empower the youth of the nation through multiple projects that place emphasis on issues that are critical for sustainable economic growth and the future success of the nation as a whole.

NDB is one of the fastest growing banks in the country with NDB Group having regional operations in Maldives and Bangladesh. The Bank offers a wide range of commercial banking services through its growing island-wide branch network, catering to an increasing customer base from all walks of life.

Through the combined synergies of the diverse constituents of the NDB Group, its customers have access to a full range of banking and financial services; including project finance, corporate banking, SME lending, retail banking, investment banking, stock brokering, wealth management and insurance solutions making NDB a truly Universal Bank.
