Poaching Indian fishermen arrested

The Navy arrested a group of Indian fishermen engaged in illegal
fishing activities in Sri Lankan territorial waters on Saturday. The
Navy took into custody their fishing trawlers. Twenty six Indian
fishermen in five fishing trawlers were illegally fishing in the
Northern seas off Sri Lanka and were spotted by Naval troops attached to
the Northern Naval Command.
The Indian fishermen were taken into custody in Sri Lankan waters off
Kovilam Point.
The arrested fishermen and vessels were brought to Kayts Island and
handed over to the Fisheries Department Authorities.
The Fisheries Department will take legal action against the Indian
fishermen. |
