'Maldives committed to support Lanka'
Maldives always stand committed to help Sri Lanka at international
fora due to the bond of friendship and historical ties with Sri Lanka
dating back to centuries, said former Maldives President Maumoon Abdul
Gayoom when he met Parliamentarian A H M Azwer at his office in Male on
Saturday.

The MP was in Male to attend the SAARC Region Arts and Cultural Camp
and Exhibition representing Culture and the Arts Minister T B Ekanayake.
Former Maldives President expressed satisfaction over the convincing
support given to Sri Lanka, particularly by the Muslim countries at
UNHRC sessions in Geneva.
MP Azwer said President Mahinda Rajapaksa is making great progress in
economic development and works hard in fostering communal harmony.
He said time and again the President assured the minority
communities, Tamils, Muslims, Malays, Burghers and others that he is
firmly committed to protect their rights and privileges. He said the
President would not permit anyone to disturb communal harmony and peace
and that they are free to practice their religions and promote their art
and culture.
MP Azwer presented a copy of Mahinda Chinthanaya to former President
Gayoom. Copies were also presented Maldives Tourism Minister, Tourism
Director and Male National Art Center Director.
