Little England ready for April festivities

The Nuwara Eliya April festivities will be held with over 30 school bands together with the Police and Army Bands parading the streets of Nuwara Eliya.

Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa will be the Chief Guest and Minister Navin Dissanayake the Guest of Honour.

The April festive season is organised by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council, together with the April Festivities Committee and other sports and social organisations.

Events such as motor racing, regatta, house boat tours, golf and tennis tournament and a full month programme are on the cards this month.

The highlight of the April season festivities is the Nuwara Eliya traditional flower show by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council.

A number of horticulturists and owners of leading hotels, motels and guest houses have grown exotic flowers and are participating in the competition, where the council will present prizes and trophies.

Meanwhile, Nuwara Eliya Government Agent D G P Kumarasiri and Mayor Mahinda Kumara Dodambage requested the trading community to have sufficient stocks of food items to meet the demand of the heavy influx of holiday crowds, both locals and foreigners.

Already, a large number of foreign and local holiday crowds are seen in Nuwara Eliya. Seasonal attractions are centered around Lake Gregory area.

Organisers said this season will be the biggest one in the recent years, with excellent weather conditions prevailing.

Horse racing, boat racing, motor races, golf and tennis tournaments with other sports activities are highlights of this year's April festivities.
