North Central Province Health Minister H. B. Semasinghe described the strike launched by government doctors in Hingurakgoda in the Polonnaruwa district yesterday as very unfair. The strike caused grave injustice to the innocent patients.

Doctors struck work yesterday protesting against the release of a PHI attached to the Anuradhapura Regional Health Services Directors' office to the PHIs union head office for trade union activities.

Minister Semasinghe said the PHI was released with the Governor's approval in terms of the Trade Union Act. It was also illogical for members of one profession to resort to trade union action against a matter concerning another profession.

Moreover a special committee has been appointed to investigate the mutual accusations levelled against each other by the PHIs Union and the District Medical Officers union and the Ministry is awaiting its report to take action to resolve the issue.
