Unveiling the artistic talents of a group of upcoming artistes who have completed the Art Diploma at APT Art Academy, an exhibition was held at the Mahaweli centre titled as 'Arunalu'. The Chief guests of the exhibition were ANCL Editorial Director Seelaratne Senarath and Posts and Telecommunication Minister Jeevan Kumarathunga.

The exhibition consisted of the paintings and sculptures done by the students of the academy. Before they get awarded with the diploma, the students have to showcase their abilities and what they learnt during the course. Therefore at the end of the course, every batch has to hold this annual art exhibition.

Commenting on the exhibition and the academy, the in charge of the academy, Lalith Kalubowila said that the APT Art Academy is a pioneering place for those who are interested in learning art as a professional and academic subject. According to him, apart from the Visual and Performing Arts University, there is no other proper place to follow an academic course on art in Sri Lanka. That is why he started the APT Art academy.

The academy offers a high quality overall art diploma focusing on four categories of students. It focuses on those who have the born talent but drop the subject at Ordinary Level Examination, Advanced Level examination, those who fail the university entrance practical exam or those who are employed without continuing academic studies.

"The course consists of six subjects: drawing, colour studies, art composition, sculpture, graphic art and design. All these subjects give a very good understanding of every aspect of art. I really want to help those who want to learn it as a professional subject. There are plenty of students from different parts of the country who come to follow this course. Among my students, there are small ones and older ones as well. There are even school teachers and many other professionals," Kalubowila said.

APT Art Academy classes are held at the Sudarshi hall at Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.
