Motorcycles for Fisheries Ministry officials

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry will provide
motorcycles to 21 information and data officers attached to the
fisheries sector to facilitate them to obtain correct information about
fisheries resources.
The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry provided
special training to 34 officers attached to the Fisheries Department and
National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) on
gathering information from well - known fishing grounds.
The motorcycles were provided by the Overseas Fisheries Corporation
Foundation (OFCF) in Japan on a request by the Indian Ocean Tuna
Commission (IOTC).
Over Rs 7 million was spent for the training and motorcycles.
The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry distributed
the motorcycles in Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Tangalle, Kalmunai,
Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Mullaitivu, Jaffna, Puttalam, Chilaw, Negombo
District Fisheries officers and Information and Data officers of NARA.
OFCF Director S Pujiwara handed over the motorcycles to Fisheries and
Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne at the
ministry recently.
