Project to strengthen prisoner, families bonds

Rohana Sipiri Divi Neguma, a novel project to strengthen bonds between prisoners and their families was launched by the Southern Province Cultural Ministry, secretary D S Pathmakulasuriya said. He said under this project, special emphasis would be given to the welfare of schoolchildren of these families.

"They would be provided assistance while arrangements will be made for the children to meet their relatives in prisons and thereby providing an opportunity to pay homage and communicate with them," initiators of the project said.

Sipiri Divi Neguma, formulated on the instructions of Southern Province Culture Minister D V Upul has been approved by the Prison Commissioner.

It will be implemented this year, the secretary said. Pathmakulasuriya said this at a press briefing at the Southern Provincial Cultural Ministry recently.
