Thilanga’s SLC Presidency nomination rejected
MP Thilanga Sumathipala’s nomination for the Sri Lanka Cricket
presidency 2013 -2015 has been rejected as it has violated the National
Associations of Sports Regulations, No. 01 of 2013 section 15-1 of the
Sports Law No 25 of 1973. According to the powers vested on to the
Minister of Sports via the Sports Act of section 39-1, the Sports
Minister has rejected the nominations of MP Thilanga Sumathipala, the
Sports Ministry sources said.
Earlier this month, Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage
appointed a three-member committee which was headed by the Sports
Ministry Secretary A.M. Jayawickrama, Attorney-at-Law Panduka
Keerthinanda and a representative of Auditor General’s Department B M K
Mohottala to probe the objections against the nomination of MP Thilanga
Sumathipala for the presidency of SLC after three sports associations
filed objection against his candidacy.
Minister Aluthgamage has forwarded the report to the
Attorney-General’s office for legal advice. The decision was taken
following the Attorney General’s advice, Sports Ministry sources
revealed.
