Chain adorning deity, stolen

Chilaw Police arrested a 19 year old who allegedly stole a gold ornament worth Rs 250,000 that adorned a statue at Munneshwaram Kovil in Chilaw.

The suspect, a resident of Grandpass had been placed in remand custody until April 5 by the Chilaw magistrate.

Meanwhile, two suspects were arrested by Kandy Police for attempting to sell 1.270 kgs of fake gold pieces (maranchi) as genuine gold, in Kandy, on Saturday.
