Woman dies in firework factory mishap

A female worker employed at a fireworks factory in Negombo was burnt
to death in a factory mishap. This was revealed at the inquest on the
death of Kurukula Arachige Nisansla Sanjeewanie, 29, held by City
Coroner Edward Ahangama.
Giving evidence at the inquest, Danushka Lakmal said on the day of
the incident, three workers including Nisansala were engaged in the
manufacture of sky rockets.
Each of them had manufactured 1,000 of these type of fire works.
Between 9 am and 10 am, Lakmal said he got a smell of gunpowder. He saw
that a fire had broken out. He warned the others to take to their heels.
Two of them had run into a shed. After a while, when witness returned to
investigate, he found Nisansla with burnt injuries.
She was rushed to the Negombo Hospital and later to the National
Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Witness was unaware as to
how the fire had broken out.
JMO Rahul Haq of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Toxicology who
held the postmortem attributed the cause of death to burn injuries. A
verdict of accidental death was recorded.
Driver dies in tractor accident

A tractor driver was critically injured when his tractor engaged in
earth filling in Kalavedi Ulpoyha Wewa in Kebetigollewa slipped back and
struck the blade of a bulldozer crushing him in between the tractor and
the bulldozer.
He was later rushed to the Vavuniya Hospital where he succumbed to
his injuries.
The deceased was identified as a 21-year-old resident in
Galenbindunuwewa. Investigations are continuing.
Train crashes into three wheeler

A three wheeler driver was critically injured when a train plying
from Vavuniya to Colombo crashed into the trishaw at an unprotected
level crossing at Balagolla.
The 21-year-old driver, a resident of Mahamukalanyaya was rushed to
Kurunegala hospital. Wellawa Police are continuing investigations.

next of kin of the following Sri Lankans who have died abroad.
Rafideen Mohammed Ameer Basha (N 4308149) and Walamunige Reeta Perera
(N 0699083), died in Kuwait, Daniel Dayananda Kumar (L 0795505), died in
London and Weerasinghe Arachchige (N 2539228), died in Malaysia If the
public have any information of the relatives of the deceased please

Bless Sri Lanka” rallies
The “Bless Sri Lanka” rallies will be held between Good Friday and
Easter Sunday at Galle Face Green from March 29 to 31 at 5 pm.
A service of dedication will be held in the Sinhala and Tamil
languages on March 28 at 5 pm at Galle Face Green, with singing, a
Gospel message and a prayer for deliverance on the tree days. The event
is organised by Rev. Roy Issac on behalf of the Bless Sri Lanka Working
