Vocational training for Gampaha youths

The Gampaha district will be the main target for vocational training with the help of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa as there is a huge youth population, said Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.

He said so at the opening of the Gampaha Ahugammana Vocational Training Centre.

The minister said President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the leader who marked the turning point of vocational education.

According to the minister, foreign investors look for skilled labour and the Vocational Training Authority is looking forward to add more than 36,000 to the workforce this year.

Also, a degree can be completed through vocational training for those unable to attend universities, said the minister. Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Vocational Training Authority Chairman Darshana Rathnayake also spoke.
