Construction industry boosted by peace dividends - Wimal

The Sri Lankan nation’s power enriched with Buddhist culture is
stronger than all the Western powers, Construction, Engineering
Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.

He was addressing at a ceremony to award certificates for those
involved in the fields of masonry and carpentry empowering the
multi technical constructors at the Deyata Kirula Exhibition, held at
the Ariyan Hotel in Ampara.
The Minister awarded 155 certificates to those who participated at
the inaugural workshop conducted by the Institute of Construction
Training and Development (ICTAD), concurrent to the Deyata Kirula
national development exhibition being held in Ampara.
The Minister said the true dividends of peace has given a boost to
the construction industry with recorded a 21.6 percent growth against
2011 which recorded a 14.2.percent growth.
“In 2002, the construction field recorded a 3.7 percent growth rate,”
he said.
“The restoration of a permanent peace in the country has spurred
growth. Development in the North and East which was badly retarded due
to LTTE terrorism has received a tremendous boost, the Minister said.
Senior Minister P.Dayarathna and Matara District MP Sriyani
Wijewickrama, Ministry Secretary P. H. L. Wimalasiri, Ampara District
Coordianator Susil Kumarasinghe and ICTAD Chairman Udula Bandara
Ausadahami were also present.
