Barbara (Germany)

Barbara (2012) by Christian Petzold will be screened on March 28 at 3 pm and 5.30 pm at the International Centre for Ethnic Studies(ICES)auditorium,02,Kynsey Terrace, Colombo 8. (Running Time: 105minutes)

Christian Petzold's Barbara, set in 1980 Germany , is a film about watching and being watched.

In 1980s East Germany, Barbara a Berlin doctor banished to a county medical clinic for applying for an exit visa. Deeply unhappy with her assignment and fearful of her co-workers as Stasi informant, Barbara stays aloof especially from the good natured clinic head, Andre. Instead, Barbara snatches moments with her lover as she secretly prepares to defect one day.

Despite her plans Barbara learns more about her life that puts her desires and the people around her in a new light. Barbara finds herself facing a painful moral dilemma that forces her to choose what she values.

The film competed at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012 where Petzold won Silver Bear for Best Director.

Kolompure at Matara

Kolompure, the latest comedian produced by Priyantha Ranjan and scripted by Kothmale Senevirathne and Sarath Kulanga will be staged on March 31at 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm at the Samupakara Mandira Shalawa in Matara.

The chief organising will be done by Priyantha Ranjan while music will be by Sarath Kulanga.

Kalani Palama to be staged at Sri pali hall

Kalani Palama, directed by R R Samarakoon and produced by Priyantha Ranjan will be staged on March 30 at 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm at the Sri pali hall, Horana.

The cast includes Ramya Wanigasekera, Sanjeewa Upendra, Prasannajith Abeysooriya, Geetha Kanthi Jayakody, Thilak Kumara Rathnayake, Prasad Sooriyaarachchi, Niluka Rekhani, Kamal Jayakody, Tharanga Bandara, Samson Gomas, R M Abeynayake, Samantha Kumara Gamage, Dimuthu Chinthaka along with Madhani Malwatta and Anusha Dissanayake.

Choreography by Wasantha Wittachchi, Kumara Galahitiyawa and Upul Mahanama, stage management by Priyantha Ranjan and assisted by Anushka Vithanage and Chandima Samarasinghe. Prompting done by Nilanka Sandamali.

Lighting by Wasantha Kumara, stage decorations by Lionel Bentharayan and stage equipments by Rohana Hewavitharana.

Kalani Palama is presented by House of Drama while production management and chief organizing done by Priyantha Ranjan.

Rookada Rajje to be staged at Minuwangoda

Rookada Rajje scripted by D Kumarage and produced by Priyantha Ranjan will be staged on March 31 at 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm at the Nalanda Vidyalaya hall, Minuwangoda.

The cast includes Vijaya Nandasiri, Rodney Warnakula, Priyantha Senevirathne, Sarath Chandrasiri, Gamini Ambalangoda, Ferni Roshani, Kumara Liyanage, Indika Jayasinghe and Tharanga Bandara. The music will be by Sarath Kulanga.

Make up by Kumara Galahitiyawa, costume designing by Kamal Kanthi Bogoda and Dhanapala Bogoda, Jewellery designed by Chamara Anudath Rajapakshe, stage lighting by Wasantha Kumara (Wasantha lights), Sujeewa Wijesinghe, Sathyapriya Wijesinghe.
